Links for students and teachers:
The Internet TESL Journal provides an excellent list of links for students. You can find crossword puzzles, quizzes and other activites to practice grammar, vocabulary and listening.
For English-Italian vocabulary quizzes, go straight to the following page.
Dave's ESL Cafe is a great site for students and teachers alike. You can chat with others studying English as a foreign language all over the world and find lots of activites for practice outside the classroom.
For listening practice, try the National Public Radio (NPR) site for American English or the BBC site for British English. You will need to download RealAudio Player from the Internet in order to listen. On NPR, you can listen five-minute news broadcasts updated every hour. Text versions of the broadcasts are also available.
Read the newspaper in English. Connect to The New York Times official site.
If you need to find information on just about anything, Jeeves can probably find it for you. Ask Jeeves is a really helpful search engine. You ask questions using natural language (eg. How many words are in the English language?) and Ask Jeeves finds sites with the answer. It's also a good opportunity to practice forming questions in English!
Links for teachers:
I have found the The Internet TESL Journal to be an invaluable resource. In addition to publishing articles and materials, it maintains comprehensive pages of links for teachers and students of ESL/EFL. There is a wealth of material available, from the theoretical to the practical.

A real time-saving resource is the English-to-go site, which provides free weekly lessons based on Reuters news stories. The stories are usually high-interest and the lessons well-developed with a variety of activites to exploit the article. The lessons range from elementary to advanced levels.
A good online magazine, Humanising Language Teaching, is available on the Pilgrims site at no charge. Interesting articles, teaching tips, reviews of materials, lesson plans and jokes.
John and Sara's TEFL Pitstop has some interesting materials and information. The site doesn't seem to have been updated recently, however.
